I am getting ready to spray paint some dining table chairs that are finished with shellac. Probably about 20 years old. Other than cleaning off the accumulation of wax, oil and grime is it necessary to refresh the surface with DNA or can I apply BIN Primer directly to the cleaned old finish. Is sanding necessary? Thanks

As long as you get all the surface grime off the BIN (which is shellac based) will go on nicely.

Thank you Glenn. It seems logical that new shellac should stick (melt) into the old shellac but someone else's experience is usually a better guide than the logical. And a community's is even better.
