Folks - We are starting to plan our kitchen re-do, and I was wondering which of the zillions of books out there have been most helpful to folks in this process.

We aren't planning any heavy duty renovation or construction; we will be keeping the existing kitchen footprint and cabinet layout.

I will be making new cabinet doors and drawer fronts, and refacing (is that the right term?) the cabinet boxes/frames to match.

We will be hiring out the flooring work (new tile) and countertops (there are 3 separate countertops, the main one, an island, and a small desk area off to one side).

I'd appreciate hearing all thoughts on resources that you found helpful for redoing your kitchen.

Thanks,

Ken

Ken, I can't recommend any specific books. I would suggest for a start looking at kitchen styles using Google images and from there you can start researching materials and prices. I have to admit as a professional that I have never used a book for this at all. Cheers

The Houzz app is pretty nice to browse for ideas. you can pin/save the pictures and make a nice list of things you want to include. The search feature is also pretty good.

Thanks folks. I thought a book might present the options in a more structured way....google images gets kind of overwhelming, and it seems like I get lost in the weeds pretty quickly. Sure is nice to see the pretty pictures though.

I would say...forget the books and just dive in with your own plan of what you want to do.... a few years ago I had a house that was built in 1872... and wanted to re-do the kitchen cabinets...they were from (i'm guseeing) the 50's or so....stained plywood doors and painted trim. Having never done cabinets before I thought I'd give it a try...changed them to Butternut and built a new broom closet and a bit of extra counter space on the other side...I think they turned out well so if I can do it ...anyone can....
