Don't really know what to call a joint like this

I have to do a window seat that has three sides. I'm looking for a way to join them together. I'm not keen on a 45. I've done it that way but don't really like the long seam. I've seen in a counter where the staggered the boards in the seam. Has anyone done it this way?

I have done this once with end matched (tongue and grooved ends on each board) tongue and groove flooring. It worked okay but I never saw the place again to know what it was like over time. No call back though. Cheers

I think you are talking about a herringbone pattern, like this? :

Fairly common in hardwood flooring. I've never done a counter top or window seat this way, but I've done decks and benches with this pattern. If you're thinking about gluing all the pieces into a solid, monolithic structure (as opposed to a series of individual T & G pieces that can expand/shrink individually) you may get some joint separation or cracks with moisture content changes.
