A piece I'm working on from a freind's downed willow. He was going to burn it but I talked him out of it so he pushed it over a hill behind his house so I can take all I want.
I love the colors, some look like spalting to me. There's also lots of rot.
I'd never seen willow wood and I think I'm going to enjoy turning this stuff.

Now I understand why no one has responded. I posted pics of another species. I think these are Butternut and not Willow.
If I'm also wrong on that could someone please identify what wood I posted pics of.

Looks a lot like what we call in the midwest "cedar" or red cedar. Cracks and knots are common as your pictures show. The yellow color is just a variation in the wood and I do not believe its spalting. My $.02 worth.

Looks like eastern redcedar to me (Juniperus virginiana).

Ok, I was given several feet of cedar as well.
I'd better find a way of labeling my stash. It's getting pretty large.
