I just ordered my Nova motor upgrade for my lathe. I'm excited to enter the world of variable speed turning. I have just a few questions. Has anyone else made this upgrade, and if so are there any tips for the process that you would like to share? There's precious little information online about these. Secondly, does anyone advocate making this motor 220 vs 110? Will there be any real advantages to this given the motor is supposed to be a highly efficient motor already? Lastly, does anyone know if the DVR remote works with these motors like it does on the actual DVR lathe, and if so would this be a recommended accessory?

The motor is on back order until December 15th, so I assume a lot of people are making the change (or the factory is making them in batches of 10), so I've got plenty of time to wring my hands.

Thanks,

Adam

Myself and then 2 others have made this move. Just plug it in and go. Need more info, contact me.

Works great! I don't see a need to change to 220. Plenty of power. Thanks to Allan, I was able to get it switched out and running in no time.

220 means less amps so if your panel is limited it's worth it.

I agree with the others. It was a breeze, and you'll feel like you've got a brand new lathe.

Well, that's all good news to hear.

What did you folks do with your other motor?

I put mine in the box the new one came in. My (hopefully never utilized) emergency spare.

Just curious - where did you order the upgrade from? I just did a quick search of woodcraft and amazon and did not see it.

Thanks, Frank

I ordered mine from Performance Tool Center. It and the Nova website are the only two places I've seen it. The shipping was free at Performance Tool though and I've ordered from them before.
