I think woodcraft used to sell the one pictured. Shinwa makes a similar but fancier guide.

Is it just me, or does that look a bit awkward to use?

It's not just you. In fairness to the tool--the cut in that picture puts everything in an awkward position. Makes me grateful for my old Dewalt GWI, with a miter saw a close second.

It's a circular saw angle guide made by Central Quality Industries.
Woodcraft sells one. There is a Japanese model called a Shiniwa.
Look on eBay for "circular saw angle guide" and you will find 52 different models including the Central Quality Industries one.
One number is: 272392707767 and another is 182210854695
Hope this helps.
