Can anyone recommend someone to make me a router bit ?
I’m in central Florida but don’t mind working with someone across the country.

Thanks
Elman

BTW - what I need is a two flute, 36mm R - 24mm D - .25” shank.

I can't imagine anyone with the tooling to create a router bit being willing or able to make a one off bit in a cost effective manner. That being said... Infinity Cutting Tools is out of Florida. Oldsmar, Florida to be specific.

I'm curious why you need such a specific bit and can't utilize a standard item?

Whiteside Machine and Carbide Processors both offered this service in the past. I see that CP still offers it as seen on their website: "Get a quote on a Custom Router Bit (http://www.formstack.com/forms/?1062427-nX48MiN0Jj) or Call 800-346-8274 for a quote." Tell 'em I sent ya ;-)

I’m making a double top guitar.
The cavity on the top goes down 1mm and the larger radius on the bit will give me a smooth transition area on the edge.

Thanks Glenn - I'll give them a call.

Elman, Surely that can be achieved by using multiple bits, no?

Onsrud also offers this service

Not really. The geometry does not work for my application.

Dime a dozen, probably could be made from extant cutter. SouthEast tools, NC.

Sounds like a mighty big bit for a .25 shank.

Steve the bit is only 24mm diameter.
Less than 1".
It's the 36mm radius (almost 1.5 R" ) that is hard to find.

Thanks

Funny, this thread went from " can't imagine" to "Dime a dozen"
I'll look in to them too.
Thank You.

Dynamic Saw in Buffalo, NY makes custom router bits, in solid carbide, too, on an amazing, one of a kind CNC grinder. Give them a call.

What am I missing here....how can you have a 36mm radius but only a 24mm dia?

That's a fully automatic saw blade sharpener. The CNC router bit machine is equally impressive but they don't have a video posted of it in operation. I watched it grind a 3/4" diameter chunk of solid carbide into a special compression bit about 6" long.

In case you missed it in their ad, they will sharpen router bits, any bit, for $4.

What's the distance from the center of the arc to the flat spot?

2 MM. Each square = 1mm

Could you do that on a table saw with an angled guide (cove cutting)? Or is it a stopped cut?

Not really.

I’m making a double top guitar.
So it is a two pronged process.

Using a template.
First the transition to the edge of the template with a 27mm ring guide and a 24mm Diameter and a 36mm radius bit.
Second a .5” bottom clearing bit with a 40mm ring guide to offset the first guide by 50% - to clear the bulk of the material with out touching the transition.
To be clear. Only 1mm of material is being removed :-0

Hope that makes sense.

Thanks for the drawing, I get it now.

I looked into having a custom bit made a few years ago. I can't find the email so I can't give you the name of the company I talked to though. Someone local to southeast Wisconsin. If I remember right the custom bit was in the $250 range.

I just received a custom router bit today, that I ordered from Royce/Ayr Cutting Tools (here in Ontario, Canada). They make some nice tooling, I get a lot of my insert tooling for the shaper from them, as well as solid carbide spiral and compression bits for my CNC router, that they manufacture.

JFYI what I received was a 2" diameter, 3/4" shanked tool with two carbide shear cut inserts (not brazed). Think of it like a large diameter end mill with a radiused corner.

Cost was in the $350 range. Most tooling companies like Royce, FS Tool, Nap Gladu, etc (in the US I have dealt with Onsrud, SOutheast Tool) will do custom work, but it will cost more obviously for a one-of.

If you need it, it can be made. I much prefer insert tools these days VS brazed. No sharpening, easier to swap out inserts and the carbide grade is much better as well.

I've had custom bits made by Velepec in the distant past. They were great to work with.

I appreciate everyones input and thanks for the second vote on Dynamic Saw.

Finalizing my drawings before contacting anyone.
Will post a pic of my bit when it gets here.

Cheers.
