Want to build a music box for my Granddaughter and want to use quality movements. Does anyone have experience with Reuge movements or have any other suggestions.

I'm not familiar with the Reuge movements. I built a music box for my wife a couple of years ago. I used a 72 Note Movement I got from Rockler.

I used the Canon in D movement because that's what she walked up the aisle to oh-so-many years ago. The sound is beautiful. I have a short video of it, but I don't the audio sounds much tinnier than what it sounds like in person. I don't know if it will come through here, or not.

I've purchased movements from these sites with no problems:

The Music Box Company (http://www.themusicboxcompany.com/tune_lists.htm#purchase18note)

Music Box Keepsakes (http://www1.musicboxkeepsakes.com/?kw=music+box)

Music Boxes etc. (http://www.musicboxesetc.com/pd_standard.cfm)

I believe Klockit also sells music box movements. I've always had good service and good materials from them but I have never purchased a music box movement from them.

I have made many music boxes and use Reuge exclusively. I haven't been able to find them lately. I believe they are Swiss made.

Thanks for the replies, great info. Bruce, I have seen several on ebay, new and used. Going to buy one and test my skills. Anything special about making a music box?

Make a reliable template for screw locations (mounting screws). Test the movement before starting anything---I have had the "keys"? shift and had missing notes and spent time realigning things. I often used plexi-glass or real glass so you could watch the thing play and put "stuff" in other partition of box.
The sky is the limit, have fun and post a pic.

Bruce pretty well covered most of the issues... except a soundboard. It makes quite a difference in the sound, so do some experimenting.
