View Full Version : A couple from the latest batch of bowls.

I wanted to post these, because I found some maple that is drop-dead gorgeous. 8"x3"

I've still some work to do on getting my photos up to speed. I'm going to try to build or buy a light box next to get rid of the hot spots.

Adam the wood is the kind woodturners are always seaching for, and the form you chose for the bowl really shows it to the max. I like the bead on the bottom of the mesquite. What kind of finish did you use? Thanks for showing them to us.

The finish is BLO and Beeswax.

Adam, while I really, really like both bowls, I have to say that Maple bowl may just be one of my top 2 or 3 all-time favorites from the pics I've seen here and other places. What a great piece of wood, and you did a great job showcasing it with your form and finish (on both of them).

You certainly did the wood justice! Beautiful. I don't have a light box either, but I make do with a sheet of poster paper resting on both the seat and back of a straight chair (so there are no creases in the paper) I take shots on my screen porch so there is adquate natural light but no harsh shadows and no flash necessary. (A cloudy day or solid shade will do as well.) I use the manual settings on my digital camera because I have more control over depth of field, but I am still having a problem with that and the manual focus on my camera is just about useless.

You were right, that is a drop-dead gorgeous piece of maple and you made a beautiful bowl from it. Great form and finish. Excellent!

What great looking bowls. I have a special place in my heart for curly maple! They both look great! Becareful about the light box, you could be creating a new addiction...
