This really would be better in the Turner's forum or actually OWWM. Since I am at the OWWM even Arnfest in Chicago, I will ask some of the gentlemen here what they think it is.

The headstock, tailstock, and tool rest seem to resemble the Delta Homecraft 46-230 shown here: http://vintagemachinery.org/photoindex/detail.aspx?id=25214

(http://vintagemachinery.org/photoindex/detail.aspx?id=25214)But I do see some differences, especially in the tailstock. The bed in the photos looks homemade to me.

Old Delta. They made them with sheet steel bases at one time.
Precursor to the 46-230.

There was a meeting of old minds at Arnfest. You have a 9" x 36" Delta wood lathe. The NX-300 is simply the casting number. It's rarer than the more common 11" model. It has a solid drive 1/2" Head Stock is not common. We have the Internet at Arnfest. Any more questions, ask.

Myk is right, and I was wrong about the base. Looking under Delta Specialty Co. rather than Delta Manufacturing Co. turns up several examples with this kind of base.

Thank you guys. Your great. I wonder if there are places I could get attachments that would fit the headstock. Like faceplates or jaws etc.

It looks like the spur drive comes off, is that a straight shaft through the headstock? Is it threaded or smooth? What diameter is it? If it is smooth and 5/8" diameter you can get a Shopsmith adapter for chucks etc..

The tailstock, does the dead center come out? Either with a hole through the spindle using a knock out bar or by cranking it all the way to the rear? I yes, my guess is that the it will be a 1MT. If yes, you can get dead and live centers.

My 2 cents, even though I love this old iron, I would seriously look for a better piece of old iron for a starter lathe.

Also put your location on your profile, there might be someone close that can help you.

Indexing, I assume. Lets you lock the workpiece at regular intervals for carving.
