Other than it soaks in and doesn't build a shine easily, no.

Any suggestions for a better finish that will build a shine. This is for a charity auction and "shiny" things tend to sell better at least for ornaments

What kind of urchins? Green, pink, sputniks? The sputniks MAY look good shiny, but the green and pink, I would not think they would look good shiny. They are very porous. Personally, I spray them with 2 coats of lacquer, mainly so they don't get dirty with dust. Tons of choices for urchins....

If you make the wood parts shiny, I think they look really nice without the urchin parts shiny. I turn urchin boxes with the sputniks and the green, and ornaments with the pinks.

I haven't tried to buff an urchin, but I would imagine that would be really hard to do.......

These are sputniks and it is my first attempt. Think I'll give it a go with lacquer.
