Someone asked me to build a Chinese wedding chest. So I have started doing the homework....

The traditional Chinese wedding chest is basically an Armoire, most often built with elm wood, often finished with red lacquer, with a large metal medallion at the door handle/latch. What I am calling a medallion is the problem... it is a circle, 8-12 or more inches in diameter, cut vertically so half is on each of the doors. The latch (often just a pin) and the door pulls (if separate) are sometimes mounted on that circle. This is a picture I found on the web.

Does anyone know where one can buy this hardware in the US? (I found an antique store in Singapore that modifies the antiques into entertainment centers, and has reproductions built in China. They offered to order the hardware for me from China the next time they get a container of furniture, but I would prefer a source on this continent.)

Charlie.

Try Misugi Designs. If he doesn't have it, he can make it.

Check out http://www.chisler.net/. He has an enormous collection of Japanese tansu hardware. There may be Chinese stuff in there too.
