So I have replaced a defective x driver with one exactly as the old one. All wiring and settings the same but now the motor runs in reverse. Can someone tell me how to correct this.

Stepper motors, if its 4 wire and most are 4 wire 2 pair find one pair and reverse those wires. Makes no difference which pair.

To expand a little on Bill's comment, I've received steppers that were wire incorrectly and required switching wire pairs to correct the polarity. You might be able to do this in the driver firmware too.
