I got this piece of gnarly, knotty, bark included cedar at Dick Parr's barbecue. I roughed it, soaked it in alcohol and let it dry. Finished turning it this week. It is 10" in diameter and 4 inches tall. My wife collected all the good smelling chips and sewed sachet packets that we will give as gifts for Christmas.....

Very nice. I think that is probably the best example of a cedar turning I've seen. Most of the time it still looks pretty rough or there are really obvious tool marks and/or chips, but not here.:D

Very nice, Mike! Lots of action in that wood. I like the form a lot, too - especially the rim.

My wife also likes Cedar - better than just about any other wood I turn. She also collects the chips for the fragrance.

Thanks for the pictures!

Nice Mike. You sure get your hands on nice wood and take it to its full potential. Good idea on the wood chips too. My dressers are full of it....sorta like me!!:)

Excellent work on cedar! I have a love/hate relationship with that stuff. I have a piece I am going to put on the new lathe tomorrow and see what I can do any better than I did on the Mini.

Stunning piece! I love the color. I am going to have to find some around here. There is plenty to be had since it grows everywhere in middle TN.
