Here is a box elder vase turned with the grain running along its length making it an end grain hollowing operation. This wood came from Jim Ketron and I roughed it green, soaked it in alcohol, dried it and turned it. An easy wood to turn but prone to some tear out.

The vase is 6 1/4" tall and 5 3/4" in diameter.

Another Beauty Mike!! The opalescence of the wood is great and you brought it out nicely. No evidence of any tear-out from here!!

That's not fair...................................I used my best words for the other one, so this one is a BIG DITTO!

Bruce, I think Mike does this intentionally....So we have to come up with new words! :D I'll have to knock the dust off my thesaurus.

Another - Thingabeauty!

Great job, I'd love to hear how you handle the "Fuzzy's" on that stuff! The potpouri bowl I made for Karen with Jim's Box elder has so much that I thought I'd sand my fingers off getting it smooth.

Yep Kurt it does tearout easy! Just keep your chisels very sharp and sand, sand, sand.
