I was in the corel forum trying to get help but I guess they gave up .
Basically I'm trying to put an unfilled circle into an post scrip filled rectangle. the corel forum told me to hit the white in the color palette and that gave me a white circle in my filled rectangle but when I engraved it the circle engrave with the PS fill.
the fill shows in the circle when I import to lasercut. anyone know how to do this?

try saving your PS filled rectangle to a pdf then bring it back into Corel convert to curves and add your circle.

After re-reading your post I think there may be another option but see if this works first.

You can post the file and I'll give it a try.

If you put outlined circle into a filled rectangle, it doesn't matter what color you paint it, the laser is going to see all that black hiding under the white paint and engrave it out. Some western laser programs will allow you to engrave the screen verbatim (wysiwyg), but not a Chinese laser...

Unless you're doing something I'm not aware of, "combine" is all you need to do... put the circle inside the rectangle, group both, then 'combine' both. That will change the circle from an object to a hole within an object...

Ok, so I have no clue what 'post script fill' is... whatever it is, probably won't work with 'combine'.

so what IS it?

>edit< -- ok, figured it out myself, and I also figured out that combine WILL work! :)

Yes PS filled rectangle with circle can be done< First draw in your rectangle, add a circle inside, combine two objects than add a PS fill.
Here is a sample with bricks.

Mike I tried the PDF that didn't work.:(

Tony your way works but creates another problem . When I combine it makes both the rectangle and the circle the same outline color. I want to cut the rectangle out and engrave letters in the circle. with the outline the same color its going to cut both out. I can't change the circle color with out breaking the curve apart and when I do that the circle fills with my PS fill argggggggg:confused:http://www.engraver1.com/gifs/banghead.gif

do this--

put the circle in and combine it, you'll now get a hole in the filled rectangle, and yes both will be outlined--

Now copy the circle/rectangle combo and move the copy 10" below the original.

Group the original, and remove the outlines

Group the copy, un-combine it, remove the paint fill so you only have outlines--

Now move ONLY the rectangle back up 10"

You'll have the rectangle outlined, but not the circle.

For any text you're putting in the circle, use the copied circle you left below for centering the text, arcing the text, etc... when the text is perfect, move it up 10"...

:)

Bert

Have a look at this. Saving as a pdf allows altering the ps fill and is the only way I've found to do it.

Mike I saved my file as a pdf then I opened it in a new cdr it did not give me the option to convert to curves, it was greyed out. so I closed it reopened in a new cdr and clicked open in curves instead of test button. I then made my circle dragged it into the ps filled rectangle then I combined and it still changed everything.
what am i doing wrong

step by step in Corel- I've made the outlines 8pt for clarity...

Draw the box, PS fill it, draw the circle you want---

http://www.engraver1.com/ps1.jpg

put the circle in the box where you want it- I dead-centered it...

http://www.engraver1.com/ps2.jpg

Group them <<<<>edit< --- NOT with the "group" function, just 'BOX THEM TOGETHER'--- then Combine them-- (sorry for the confusion) ;)

notice the outlines are red now...

http://www.engraver1.com/ps3.jpg

Now, copy and paste a duplicate of the graphic, then move it a set distance away.
This duplicate is moved exactly 5" down.

http://www.engraver1.com/ps4.jpg

click on the top graphic and remove the outlines--
click on the bottom graphic and remove the ps fill..

http://www.engraver1.com/ps5.jpg

now break apart the red outlines, and move only the outer outline back up 5"

http://www.engraver1.com/ps6.jpg

Now you can add text- I had the text follow the circle, broke apart the text from the circle,
and moved the text up 5". This is now ready to engrave and cut, the hole won't fill or cut
Also note the circle outline is now 8pt black...

http://www.engraver1.com/ps7.jpg

--if you want to border the hole with engraving but not cut it out, just move
the hole back up, there you go, the black outline will now raster engrave as long
as it's any thicker than 'hairline'....

Kev I appreciate all the time you took to do this but it just dosn't work on my corel x5 when i clicl remove outlines it removes the fill and leaves the outlines I've tried several different ways and i can't get it to work.even the people on the corel forum can't seem to tellme how to do it. maybe my corel is messed up. but Im really frustrated with this. also I can't group and then combine, it won't let me.

I just followed Kev's instructions and with one exception they worked perfectly. The exception is that you can't group then combine, once you group the objects combine is not an option. Instead of group then combine I just combined - no problem.

Sorry-- by "group" in that context I meant 'box them all together so you can combine them' -- which is 'grouping' but NOT via the 'group' function :) (I've somewhat edited it above)

Bert-
to remove outlines you RIGHT click the ''no color" button,
to remove paint fill you LEFT click the "no color" button... :)

Kev Your the Man!!! I didn't know that right or left clicking the no color button did different things.I learned a lot here and thanks to all who helped, and Kev you learned something also you now know what Post Script fill is :D and when I drop by to play with your fiber laser I'll buy you a beerhttp://www.cnczone.com/forums/images/smilies/beerchug.gif

In the future, one of the easiest ways to get around this is to simply save the file as a very high resolution raster image and then scale it properly in your Laserworks or whatever you're using.

Sometimes it's a necessary evil when you have really complicated artwork. I've also been known to take very complicated artwork, save it as a HQ image and then vectorize it in Inkscape. Add the vector text. Then laser it. I find it to be a reasonable compromise.

--make it a Redd's Apple Ale... ;)

And yes, this thread taught me about PS and other fills-- I don't have much use for them in my line of work but it's nice to know it's there for the fun stuff! (like, Xmas is coming)
