This falls into the "why didn't I think of it":

I like the idea and I think others have done the same, but they seem to be a bit pricey?

I don't get it. They've reduced the effective thread pitch. Why is that good? You now have to twist the handle harder to apply the same clamping force.

That would be a wrist saver. They are pricey tho.

A variation on Bessey's Rapid Action Clamps. (http://www.besseytools.com/en/product_details.php?ASIMOID=000000010003b6f4000300 23&ASIMOID_SC=000000000001f21d00030023&ASIMOID_MC=000000000001f3f000030023)There are others that make this system as well. Rockler's innovation is the handle that allows a quick spin and then converts to a lever which is pretty much required to get adequate torque in this design. The price is not really out of line for clamps of this scale. These are not small f-style clamps but more on the scale with Bessey's TC series of malleable clamps.

I had to look at the third photo to see what made it different than other clamps. You will see many imitators in the future unless they developed some type of patent to protect themselves. When that happens, the prices will fall.

Starting at $40? Sheesh

The piston clamp design has been around for a while now, I believe invented by Dolex (http://www.dolex.fr/en/societe.aspx#). Urko (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0015DGI1G/ref=s9_acsd_hps_bw_c_x_3) and Bessey (http://www.bessey-ser.fr/en/clamping-tools/clamps/high-performance-clamps/) make them as well.

$40 is not unreasonable for this type of clamp.

I don't know about you, but I completely misunderstood what this was.

Can't say if it is a good idea or not; I'd have to try one.

Seems like a few people disagree with you. When I bought clamps like this for my shop (one man) I bought about two dozen. You do the math.

I like the idea of the clamp but I'll get by with my Jorgensons, spitting on my hand and bearing down.
