Anyone know what grit a Shapton diamond lapping stone is?

Hi guys.
I just ordered a 500HR Shapton Glass. I'm not willing to pay nearly $400 for their lapping plate to maintain a $55 stone. I'm going to use either one of my DMT Diamond plates or some 400 grit wet/dry sandpaper. (Which is what I already use on my Shapton Glass 6000.)

What grit would you say their lapping plate is?

275 grit.

Fred, you really can use anything around this range - sandpaper, another diamond stone, etc. It just must be flat.

Grizzly has some inexpensive granite plates that are dead flat. You can just put sandpaper on them and you've got an excellent flattening system.

They claim #270-#325, and state the particle size as 45-54 um.

In the FEPA grit rating scheme that particle size range would correspond to #230 or so.
