I have a Ridgid 14" BS and have seen where a 4" port has been put on the bottom of the lower door. What is the best device to attach to the BS door to allow the flex hose to attach?

Thanks
John

John I've seen some 4" galvanized adapters with a flange at a local Borg. I'd probably pop rivet or screw it to the case and then seal it with a caulk.

Agreed! I think they call them "collars".... 4" dia. with a 2-3" of "collar" out to the flex and an inch or so ring to connect to BS.

After doing some more searching I found this (http://www.tools-for-woodworking.com/index.asp?PageAction=Custom&ID=20) Has anyone done this with their 14" BS?

John,

This basically a "start collar" like we are talking about.... I'm going to position my 5" collar in the upper right section of the lower cover.. closer to where the blade comes thru the table.:)

John. Before you cut that hole in the door like I did. :( Look at this post by Dominic Greco.

http://www.sawmillcreek.org/showthread.php?t=7744

I found that the hole on the cover on the bottom really didn't do me much good. Dominic's creation is a much better, less destuctive solution

Terry Hatfield also made up a similar device from a furnace register, essentialy a 4" to 10" long floor register. I can't find a post about it though.

PS. The best device for attaching the 4" flex hose is a Jointer DC Hood available from Woodcraft.

I mounted a 4" port near the bottom circumference of my band saw cover and hooked it up to my dust collector. Works wonderfully.

I replaced the entire bottom door with a new cover and added a 6" pickup. Remind me and I can get pictures of what I did.

Essentailly I traced the lower door onto MDF and then added a 6" register boot to the side of it and then filled in any gaps with custom cut MDF pieces.

Works fantastic and I just need to make a small tweak to get everything else that isn't already being picked up.

Last time I was in Highland Hardware, one of the guys who works there gave me a copy of that article. I believe they sell a fitting which can be used. I haven't retrofitted my bandsaw because I don't have a dust collector and do very little re-sawing anyway. I've met the author, Zach Etheridge, had a few conversations with him, and also know him by reputation. He used to work at HIghland Hardware and teach woodworking seminars there. If he says that retrofit works like a charm, I'd take it that it works like a charm.

John, prior to the Laguna, I had a Jet 14"-er. The setup I show here:http://www.sawmillcreek.org/showthread.php?t=3307&highlight=dust+collection , worked extremely well. What I especially like about it is, the port actually comes off at an angle, giving the user a bit more room and help the flow, as well.:)

I did something similar to what is seen at this link (http://www.woodisourart.com/bandsaw/bandsaw.htm), but I mounted the elbow lower in the door. It has worked well for me.

John,

Whatever you do......I'd be sure to run at least 5" duct to it...

Good luck!
