Hello,

I am curious on peoples thoughts for a grizzly G0505 with little use for $65? I am new in to woodworking and I currently do not own a planer. I have been shopping around a little for one so don't know much about them.

Is this a good deal for an older planer they have had for some years?

What are some things to do to verify all is working OK?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Aaron, I don't have one, but the online reviews for that planer as a hobbyist machine are very positive. It retails new for over $300, so unless you know the seller and its history, $65 is suspiciously low even for an older machine. But if it runs smoothly and planes test boards to even thickness, side to side, it sounds like a bargain. The two knives are easily replaced, if too dull or damaged to be worth resharpening. It looks like parts are readily available through Grizzly's website. If you download and read through the manual, you'll be in a better position to evaluate its performance. http://cdn1.grizzly.com/manuals/g0505_m.pdf
