My neighbor cleared some land last month and I past by his burn pile. Saw this root ball and thought I would give it a try. Here is the result, hope you enjoy as much as I. Finish is wet sanded Danish Oil. 16" tall and 13" wide at the top. C & C welcome

Very nice. You have to like the root ball for dramatic wood. Just don't know what you can end up with.

Can't beat the root ball for special "grain"

Was the root wad already burned on the outside when you rescued it? Looks charred, but may be just the way it looks. I love it!

Joe - It looks like you got it worked down pretty well before starting. Is it just between centers or did you add some faceplate or other to get better drive connection. What speed were you able to start? It looks like a 200-250 rpm situation for awhile and lots of kerchuck, kerchuck,..............

Tom, I did use a faceplate. I think I did start in that range. Also used a steady rest when I finished the outside, before going inside. It was a challenging piece and had to get a 1" bar made to get deep inside.

Joe,
Can't say enough about this piece. It is truly inspirational and I'm going to wake up from dreaming about it.

Very nice piece Joe! Interesting piece and I`m certain very harrowing in spots. Low speed and a deft hand for that beauty!

Gotta say, that is a very attractive piece. Would like to learn how you chuck up a root ball though, never heard of that yet :)

Ron, I used a face plate on the stump side and used a steady rest to support it.
