This past weekend I aquired 3 old Stanley Planes, a Bailey #7C and two block planes #140 & #203. They were my father's, whose vision has left him unable to do woodworking anymore. The 140(I think) has a piece missing off the left side. I believe it helped strenthgen it when not being used for cutting rabbits? The 203 has the front knob missing. Are these something that can be purchased? Thanks for any information you can provide.

Larry :) :) :)

Larry, you might want to contact Walt Quadrato (member here) and see if he has parts.

A good guy he is.

If Walt doesn't have the parts, you might be able to use LN ones. I would contact them if Walt cannot help.

Another place you can try is the St. James Bay Tool Company http://www.stjamesbaytoolco.com/. I know they have the screws for the side plate, but I don't know if they have the side plate itself.
They do list a front knob for Stanley block planes. I've found, though, that the front knob from a Stanley 220 will fit a 203. 220's are much easier to find than 203's, and you might see if you can get one cheap and use the knob from it.
The 203 is one of my favorite planes.
Hope this helps.
Rick

I didn't check to see if the parts you need are offered, but Stanley sells some replacement parts. See http://www.stanleytools.com/default.asp?TYPE=STATICLEFT&PAGE=partsservice.htm&LEFT=left_partsservice.htm
