This 5" bowl is another piece cut from the same stump as a bowl I posted a month ago (http://www.sawmillcreek.org/showthread.php?245050-Maple-stump-bowl). I'm about halfway through finishing it, using glossy WOP.

The bark inclusion on the left, above, was opening up a bit, so I filled it with epoxy colored with coffee grounds, and that seems to have stabilized it. Some of the wood was fairly punky (dry, soft, pithy), and I couldn't get the surface cut as smooth as I would like. But lots of sound, colorful burl, with nice pattern to it.

Look forward to your comments and critiques.

Not an easy form to work with. Throw it some wonky wood and it really becomes a bit difficult. You already mentioned your need to be able to reduce/eliminate the tear out that is seen in pictures 1 & 3, but you also need to pay attention to your tool marks as seen in pictures 2 & 3, inside of bowl, which appears to be about 1/2" down from the rim.
