I'm updating some lighting on one of my craft show displays. I'm planning to use T9 Circleline lamps inside part of the shelving. I just got back from Home Depot where I found a low cost fixture that has 1- 12" 32 watt and 1- 8" 22 watt lamps. I will modify the fixture and due to clearance issues, it would be better if I could use 2- 8" lamps instead. My question is, will the ballast that is sized for 54 watts operate at 44 watts without there being a problem with either the ballast or the lamps. The ballast will be mounted remotely and vented so heat is not a problem for it, but the lamps will be somewhat enclosed so excess heat from them could be a concern.
