Wood Identification Help

I got this piece of wood from a friend and he said it might be Pear? I am uncertain other than it is Hard and has a unique smell to it. Fairly rough bark and nice figure. Any help would be appreciated.

The wood ID folks will want to see a clean, close up shot of end grain.

That wood should be named "grenade"--look at the cracks--caution is advised.

I was clueless, but the comment about pear, and looking at the bark, reminds me of some pear I have had. Like Robert said, with all the checking, caution is advised. Tenon only, no recess!
