I don't recall how I acquired this chisel, but it is a good one. The name on it is Karpenter. On the back side is has "WINSTED EDGE TOOL WORKS" "WINSTED CONN. U.S.A."

The handle is good wood, well shaped, and has the sophistication of a Lie Nielson chisel.

The name KARPENTER is one the blade. The metallurgy is good, holds an edge, and is as nice as a Lie Nielsen.

I'm curious if any of you have seen or heard of this line. When were they made?

Not sure of the dates, but Winsted edge tool works was also the maker of Witherby chisels.

I have a 1" Karpenter that is one of my favorites.

That company sold good stuff. Have not heard of that marking before. Winsted has been out of business a long time, easy to google the working dates. They also sold chisels of good quality just marked "Winsted Tool co" ( or something close). The manner in which they were connected with Witherby has been the subject of a surprising amount of debate considering it was not so long ago. Seems like there should be records n'stuff.

I have one and like it a lot. You can find them used at a much more reasonable price than Lie Nielsen.
