hi all, I am thinking of turning a humidor as a gift. I have read that spanish cedar is the best but all i can find online is thin stock. Am wondering if anyone has a good source? Or if you have had luck with other woods? I did read that American Red Cedar works and also Honduran Mahogony, both with their drawbacks for this application.

Make it with staves or segments. That way you could use thin stock and not have most of the wood lying on the shop floor. You could also make it put of another specie, and wrap veneer around it, inside and out.

Spanish cedar is in the Melinacea? family and is very close kin to mahogany. Might be a good substitute.

I did think of segmenting. Its worth a shot anyway.
