Found this little tree a couple of years back. I cut it open and I like the grain. That piece maybe 10" across in the middle.

The sawdust smells spicy, not so much like eucalyptus, more like baking spice.

Pretty light wood, not real dense. Any idea what the tree is? - there were no leaves to help id.

The bark is stringy, as you can see.

I'm not very knowledgeable about West Coast trees/lumber but I'm gonna guess Monterrey Cypress.

I'm going to say myrtlewood, aka California bay laurel. I should add that's an undereducated guess.

My guess is cypress Monterry or Leyland. Not sure if Juniper is a cypress but I would like to add it to my guess.

Cody, Victor - thank you, but in googling your ideas I stumbled on a link to the exact same looking tree I think it is a Callistemon, an Australian bottle brush tree.

I'll sister the two small slabs I harvested and make a coffee table.

Mark, from the bark it does look like callistemon. I have had them growing but never 10" across. Post a photo of the table when it is done. Cheers
