View Full Version : 5 in dust collection fitting needed - where do I find?

I have a 5 in drop with a 5" flex hose connected that I want to connect to three different machines, one at a time. I'm trying to find a fitting, plastic preferably, that the 5 in flex hose fits over one end and I just slide the fitting onto 5 in metal ductwork that is attached to each machine (8 in jointer, 15 in planer and 12 in chop saw). I think I have looked at every woodworking site out there, Rockler, Oneida, Woodcraft, Blastgate, etc. Anyone know of such a fitting? Or have you improvised something? Thanks. Randy

This will do it. Sleeve connects to port in machine. Female piece of QD fits in sleeve. Male QD on your hose. However, it can get expensive if you have multiple machines, where you need a sleeve and Female QD for every machine.

I use the Air Handling setup and it's great.

Randall, doesn't the quick fit coupling from Oneida fit the bill? http://www.oneida-air.com/inventoryD.asp?item_no=SCOLLECT50&CatId={6CA3B980-BD80-4A76-B08A-A0E3C6E64D19} (male fitting only needed) or this one http://www.oneida-air.com/inventoryD.asp?selectedItemNumber=DAS050000&rowId=&item_no=SCOLLECT38

I recently discovered my 90deg felder adapter fit perfectly over my 5" blastgate reducer. Maybe their straight adapter might work? (http://us.feldershop.com/en-US/en-US/en-US/Extraction/Quick-Connectors/Bow-quick-connector.html)

I guess I am just cheap as I didn't want to spend $40 for an adapter as I need 3, and I just finished installing 5" crimped ducts on my machines (epoxied and sealed with silicone) to attach to... I did look at the Oneida, and guess that's what I'll have to use, a male piece to fit into the flex hose and then female end over that and the other female end onto my existing machine connections. I was thinking there has to be a simple fitting that I am just not aware of that fits inside a hose on one end and onto a metal 5" duct at the other. Guess no such animal exists. Thanks for all your comments. Randy

I built some 6" x 120mm adapters in the past using stove pipe, tins snips, rivets and some duct tape. They were not as pretty, but they worked fine for years. Each one only took about 30 - 40min to build once I figured one out. The stove pipe is available at most hardware stores.

Randy, another way to do this is with the blast gate adaptor from Oneida http://www.oneida-air.com/inventoryD.asp?selectedItemNumber=DAB050000&rowId=&item_no=SCOLLECT7 . If you want to do it yourself, cut up some 5 inch duct, crimp one end using handcrimpers, crimped end goes onto your flex and uncrimped goes onto your machine connection.

Great idea Andy. I have crimpers left over from another project from years ago. Just need to find them and give it a try. Tx. Randy

Lowes, here in Canada, sells the same thing Andy refers to...

It's a small thing but after awhile I got tired of the awkwardness/weight of the metal end and simply attached a short length of gray hose to the end of my clear flex hose, it slips right on the crimped metal pipe of my machines dust ports.

Cheers, Don

I did do Andy's idea and cut off a piece of the 5 inch duct, crimped one end, put the flex hose over it and the other end slides right on the machine ports I made. A simple $5 fix. As this will be connected to the chop saw probably 80% of the time, with some time connected to 8" jointer and 15" planer, I don't think I'll be moving to diff machines enough to worry about metal end weight. If so, I can always take the end off like Don recommends. I'll use it and see what works best for me. Thanks for all comments and recommendations - love this forum - lots of great ideas! Randy

Don, I will keep that idea in mind, thanks. I keep changing as I go along. I don't do what I intend to do due to space restrictions, just plain to awkward, to costly, etc. Also, I'm trying to keep it somewhat decent looking and functional as I will have to look at it every day and know if I get to sloppy now I will regret it and end up doing it over... Thanks again. Randy
