custom shutter manufacturer?

does anyone know of a reputable shutter maker? a good friend of mine has a nice old house and they need custom shutters - big box won't do. though i could make them, i'm not going to. anyone have a reference?

If nothing else, a local interior designer or architect should be able to steer you to a reputable company.

You probably have a mill work company close by that still has a machine to make the type with rounded edge slats. If you want the older bevel slat type the slat cuts are often cut with dado set and shop made ratchet and pall. That type is always expensive.

Patrick W, I'm very glad to see that price. I'll pass that information on the owners of the house we're working on. We will be making 16 -20-1/2" x 78" pretty soon, hand planed raised panel, mortise & tenon, and pegged, with the hinge side tenons glued, and the outers not glued so the pegs can be knocked out in the future if needed. I'm not looking for work though as I have more than I can ever do.

Believe it or not, Budget Blinds made us some beautiful plantation shutters, bi-fold, separate top and bottom with louvres that move together without a shuttle. I don't know if it was a good price, but for 12 panels we paid $1700, including installation.
