Looks very nice. Is there a finish on it? Looks a bit shiny so I suspect that there probably is. What finish did you use?

Thanks, Brice! Yes, there is raw linseed oil and pure carnauba wax on it. I sanded it dry while it was spinning on the lathe with progressive grits from 60 grit through 220, applied a liberal amount of raw linseed oil while spinning it slow, then continued sanding with 400 through 2000, applied pure carnauba wax, then sanded/polished with 3000 then 5000.

The wood is actually that smooth due to my sanding efforts, and it would be even shinier without the finish. I applied the finish because I think it is good for the wood, and the raw linseed oil brings out the details.

60 grit is pretty course, I used to start at 80 but with improved gouge control I now start at 100-150. You would spend a lot less time sanding if you could "get by" by starting at 100 grit.

Thank you, Daryl! I probably could have gotten away with starting at a finer grit, as there weren't many tool marks. I suppose it's just old habits, or sticking to my routine, as that's what I've done from the beginning. In fact, I've never even considered what I could start with; I've always just gone through the entire spectrum. I think I'll start with 100 grit next time and see how it looks. It takes an awful long time progressing from 60 grit through 5000.
