I attended my first AAW Symposium this weekend, and it was amazing. It was all that I hoped it would be and more. The demos were excellent, the venue was organized and had plenty of room for the 1500+ attendees without feeling crowded. My only complaint is that I wasn't able to see all of the demos. With all of this, I was most impressed with the cordiality of the turners. I realize that our "rock stars" would not be recognized by the average, non-turner on the street, but, to us, they are celebrities. David Ellsworth, Mike Peace, Dixie Biggs, Cynthia Gibson and others were approachable and more than friendly.
To top it all off, I was chosen to receive one of the POP Instant Gallery Awards and will have my trumpet and stand published in an upcoming American Woodturner Magazine. What a thrill and an honor.
