Can anyone recommend a moveable/portable thermostat for the house. The wall mount we have now is in the same room as the fireplace and when used for heating, the room gets so warm but the rest of the house gets cold. I would like one I can move to different rooms as needed. I would assume there would be a sending unit of some sort where our thermostat is now? If I don't do this now while I have time, I'm sure to forget by the time I'll actuall need it. Thanks for any help, Sean

I can expand on this tomorrow when I am not on my phone, but we have a Honeywell WiFi thermostat and a set of wireless sensors, these sensors can be chosen as the temp sensor for the thermostat using a app on your phone. I am not aware of an out of the box, single item solution.

I know the single item ones are made but just don't know what are trash and what are good. Thanks, Sean

I forgot I had asked that question before. I think I need to slow down and stop trying to do everything all the time. I'll slow down as soon as I get this thermostat thing finished. Thanks, Sean

Sean, I didn't notice that you were the OP. I recalled posting in a similar thread and looked it up.

For issues like this, I think it's a good idea to revisit from time to time. Technology is changing fast.

honeywell also seem to have a solution that may work. http://yourhome.honeywell.com/en/products/thermostat/portable-comfort-control

I would need to have the sending unit mounted where the existing thermostat is now. A small sensor unit would be better.

Sean,
You didn't mention (I think) what kind of heat system you have. If it is a forced draft system, the temperature sensor (sending unit) should typically be mounted shoulder height within 6-8ft (max horizontal) of the return air intake. If placed elsewhere, you may get same result as current installation. This gives best 'average' temperature.

If not forced draft, I will defer to others. (I've never had such.)

Our current one is just as described. If I can move sensor to family room, I could do same.
