Camphor NE end grain bowl for Katrina auction.

Camphor that was given to me by Ruth Harding last spring. I turned the bowl from the end of a short log. It was irregular and had a crack in it so I figured I couldn’t go wrong.

Height 1 1/2"
Width 5 1/2"
Foot 2 3/8".
Finish: Rockler's Gel Polyurethane, several coats.

The crack in the bottom was just barely visible until I turned off the foot. It has not progressed since finishing the bowl.

It doesn’t look like it from this angle but the walls are 1/4" thick.

The crack in the bottom has not propagated since finishing. If the bowl fails while I am still alive I will replace it or refund your money.

The roughed out bowl was soaked in alcohol and dried for several weeks before finish turning. I had sever tear out when roughing the piece. The dried wood turned much better and sanded easily. I applied a coat of gel polyurethane to the bark before final sanding which made for easier sanding.
