A few weeks ago I built this router based slot mortising machine. The design isn't original and if you do a search for "shop built slot mortiser" you'll find it. I've also put a link to it in my Youtube videos. The originator has been kind enough to put together some videos showing the build and also good Sketchup plans.

My purpose in posting it here was to show what I achieved. I'm certainly no experienced jig maker (in fact this is the first 'serious' jig I've attempted) and if I can do it you certainly can too; it requires neither advanced woodworking skills nor tools.

Here's the first video I made:

...follow-up video showing progress:

...hope you enjoy it!

small incremental improvements:

Ugly dust collection tube has been replaced with the smaller transparent model so that I can now watch the dust being whisked away. T-Track was also installed to hold the stop block:

Made a reducer for the connection by bandsawing the circular shape from ply then using a hole saw to remove the middle

This allows much easier attachment. The hose just slips over the end of the tube and sits there without additional means of attachment

And a final video showing the jig in action:

Let me know what you think...

This guy has some creative solutions. I wish he would provide plans for all of them.

Or post things into the forum instead of making you go somewhere else to look at things. I took a pass. ;-(

Tony, great jig!

I had to remove the external links to other ww forums. You can/should upload the pix to this thread directly. Hope others find this as educational as did I!

Apologies for the links. I'm going to claim incompetence. I thought when I was copying and pasting the pics it was the pics themselves that were being pasted (because I could see them). Now I realise it was just the links. Won't happen again.

Let me try and correct the error when I get home tonight.

No big deal, Tony! Instead of editing your original post, it'll be easiest for you to just upload the pics in a new post in this thread. Does that work for you?
