I have a Delta 14" band saw, motor is going bad.Wanted to up grade the motor to 1.5 hp . I don't want to brake the bank ether. It gets to a point of just buying a better saw. It is a 28-276 saw 3/4 hp . I'm a wood turner so I cut a lot of big green wood .I put in a riser block 5 years ago . so it has been getting a workout the last few years.
What Band saw should I look at to up grade if I did. I wouldn't want to go over 600.00 if i got that way.

Thanks for in input.

A new motor would be in the $200-300 range new I would guess. And a $600 max budget is tough if you're buying new as there aren't many (any?) bigger better saws at that price point.

I think something like the Laguna 14-12 ($1000) is what you should save for, or really scour the used market.

What's the motor doing? Hard / Won't start? It's either the start switch, or start capacitor, both of which are an easy replacement. Bearings noisy? Odds are you motor uses 6203-2RS bears which can be had from many sources for about two bucks each. You don't need the most expensive bearings for this purpose. But if you have let "magic smoke" out of windings then a new motor is in order. Wish you were closer, as I have three 1.5 HP, 1725 RPM motors in spare parts collection
