There are some jobs I won't do on a house, including mudding/taping. Looking over bids I noticed one offered me a senior discount because I was over 50. I didn't realize people considered 50 to be old.

I was more than happy to get discounts on things when I hit whatever age. In the last couple of years I have become more careful about what I will and will not do for myself so, I guess I am stepping into "old".

It keeps changing! When I was 20 I thought 50 was old. Now that I'm 50 and haven't grown up yet (just ask my wife) I've decided that 90 is old. I'll take any discounts I can get though.

Old is (and always has been) anyone 10 years older than I am at the time.

I remember taking my Mother out to dinner to celebrate her 92nd Birthday (just had her 100th a few weeks ago). During dinner she said to me, and our friends," With ya'll pushing 60, it makes me feel old."

Several years ago, when I was 60, I saw a guy I'd gone to High School with in a restaurant. I knew we were the same age. I asked him as I walked into the restaurant, "Hey Ronnie, remember when we thought a man 60 years old was old?" He answered, "That ain't old any more!"

When I'm in a store and fail to realize there is huge mirror on the wall, I Think... " doesn't that old ------- see me!?"But I think the first sign that I was getting old was the when the store clerks started to be polite and deferential. That's been going on some time now and I'm 68. Hey! I just realized ...maybe they wouldnt treat as old if I stopped talking to the mirrors!

When you can walk in a corner market in West Baltimore,on any Saturday night, and the youngins don't fool with you.So depending on your attitude,I'd say North of 60...

In my book, if you are over 100 years old, you are old.

By that definition Ken Fitzgerald isn't even old.

As a 63 year old single parent to a teenager, I feel old......

One of my best friends is going to be 76 before his twins hit 20. He is going to be SO old......

Now that I'm 64, there is an old guy who stares back at me in the mirror. My back feels old. But otherwise I feel the same as ever.

Old is my current age multiplied by 1.5
When you are 10 --- 15 years old is old
When you are 20 --- 30 years old is old
When you are 30 --- 45 years old is old
When you are 40 ---- 60 years old is old
When you are 50 --- 75 years old is old
When you are 60 ---- 90 years old is old

"10 years older than I am"

I agree with this.

The only time I feel old is getting out of bed to pee @ 3am, and standing in the bathroom next to my son while brushing our teeth (I hate mirrors).

The over 50 senior discount is a marketing ploy, I think.

I know a few people around 50 who think and move and act old. Too many french fries and getting all their exercise with the TV remote buttons might be part of the problem.

A few weeks ago I met a guy in Italy out walking a trail with a cane - he was full of life and humor at over 100.

I personally feel great at 66 and can still toss bales of hay, wrangle a 400 lb llama, and race a teenager up the hill from the barn.

Exactly the way I feel about it, but when my daughter turned 50 it did give me pause.

What do I consider old?

2 days younger than you......................LOL

The 60 of a few decades ago isn't the 60 year old of today.....Maybe it's time to raise it to 70?

I feel old when we go bar-hopping with friends and are out to say, 1-2AM, and it takes me a full week to recover. Seems like when I was in my 20's, I could do that every night and be functional the next day. Nowadays? No way!

I guess I am old as I am having to replace joints and put in new bearings. I got 60+ years out of them.. Just glad the new parts are not some cheap replacements. But like other things it is not the price of the parts but the labor costs that gets you.

I am grateful for the technology available today. Not long ago, I would have been out of luck.

My Mother had a knee replaced when she was 92, and a hip when she was 98. I asked the surgeon how old the oldest person was that he had put a hip in. He said, "106, and she went Home!"

When I was younger, an old man told me that he had gotten old enough for Christmas to come twice a year. I didn't know what he was talking about. Now I'm old enough that I understand.

I firmly believe it's a state a mind. If you can do the things you want to do and you don't feel old you aren't. I just turned 52. My last fitness test (Air Force, so it's a bit easier than others) I scored a 96.5 and ran circles around 20 yr olds. This after enduring two hernia surgeries last year followed by two more to repair a damaged nerve which I'm still being treated for, which meant not much gym time. We just get smarter, know our bodies, learn our limitations and how to overcome/work around them.

...but yes, old is at least 10 years beyond me:) My youngest of three is 4, so in 10 years I just may feel old!

+1 on depends on the individual. A friend of mine and his wife were taking their 105 year old grandfather out to dinner. This is a guy who still cuts his postage stamp sized lawn with a push type reel mower. A real go getter. As they were approaching the doors to the restaurant a gent in his seventies was exiting with a walker. The grandfather held the door open for him, and once the man was out of ear shot he told my friend" I don't want to get like that when I get old!"

Some get old early on in their years......

I always considered Morley Safer (RIP) to be old. Then I found that he was less than 5 years older than me.

I thought the same thing, Mike. All the 60 Minutes guys in the 80's looked like they were in their 80's. I was shocked then to find out then that Morley Safer was 10 years younger than Mike Wallace.

That ticking (and Marlin Perkins) were what I remember of Sunday evenings as a kid. Dad on the houndstooth sofa telling this distracted youth, 'you should watch this'. I do the very same now with my kids.

The ticking that once sounded so old and irrelevant to me, is now a sound of comfort that they still sometimes make 'em like they used to...

Johnny Carson addressed this issue on his show one night when he repeated something heard earlier in the day: "Old is anyone who's fifteen years older than you are."

He found that statement credible and so do I—most of the time.

"..The only time I feel old is getting out of bed to pee @ 3am...

"Old is getting up at 3AM to pee and when you you arrive at the toilet, you've forgotten why you're there." (Apologies to the 'author', I can't think of his name.)

It's when up watch your sons-in-law doing things the hard way and you are looking for an easier way.
They just want to be manly, I just want an easier way. Who cares about manly at 69.

Depends on the person. My dad at 70 could outwork, out dance, and out laugh 20 year olds. He was more full of life and love than anyone I ever knew. I also have an aunt who is 102 who has been (very) old for my entire 54 years on this planet.

If it was only that simple....as my dad says, "my mind is young but my body doesn't believe it."
