I am in the market for a 1/4 sheet sander. Dust collection is important. Price is also a factor.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance, Kevin

Had a Porter Cable 1/4 and 1/2 sheet sanders, and considered them worthless. Festool does have a nice random orbit sander with vacuum attached, but pretty expensive. They are okay for flat work, but worthless on round stuff.... Well as far as I am concerned.

Just curious, why such a big sanding surface for wood turning? For the flat part of a platter?

A few months ago I bought an excellent random orbital sander but it doesn't use 1/4 sheets, it uses 2" or 1" disks. It's a Grex, operates on compressed air, and is small and lightweight. I'm quite happy with it.

I meant to post this in General Woodworking, but feel free to add your advice.

For turning projects, a drill with mandrel and discs are a must, and there will be times when handheld sand paper is what is needed......but on those occasions when sanding scratches are hard to get out, and a random orbit sander is needed, then what I use is the Metabo 3" RAS....my 3" sanding discs fit nicely, the velcro is superb on it, and there are times when nothing else does as good a job at eliminating sanding marks from some woods.
