I visited my folks this weekend and my uncle who lives down the road took me for a ride on his property to show me a few trees he wanted me to get in my spare time... no hurry that is. A 15" black gum, 12" pecan, and a 36" black walnut. I brought home a full truck load of black walnut... maybe 1/8 of the tree. I waxed every thing real thick that I had to leave. I'll take my trailer next time. This tree had 3 big "U" shaped crotches and I can see from the end grain how it is merging in little squiggles. I gotta get one of those coring devices for this much walnut. Sure don't want to waste it in chips. Hmm, I wonder if they work on a lathe with the slowest speed being 500 rpm. I must check that out first. Happy even if I can't use one.

Ernie, congrats on the haul! PM or email Bill G for info about the coring tools. He should be able to give you some tips. I know he likes his.
