Elm Burl

Just cut down an Elm. I am not well in the know about burls. Is the base of this tree a burl? Worth anything? The owner is about to take a stump grinder to it.

Looks like a burl to me. Value is conditional though - it may be worth some money to a turner, but for the effort and/or cost to get it out of the ground it may not be worth it. If you can get the stuff above ground, someone will probably want it.

Whether it's burl or just root mass, if you harvest it, be aware that it might contain embedded rocks.
