Value of Stanley Chute plane and board # 51 and 52

On a local auction there is such a set for sale.

Im unsure of how much they usually go for.

Only worth it if you are a collector, not a user. The Veritas shooting plane is $339 and the large track is $50. Lie Nielsen has a 51 equivalent for $500 and they plan to come out with a 52 track equivalent at some time in the future.

I own the Veritas right handed plane and small (16 inch) track. I'm completely happy with it. Building the shooting board with track also educated me on the difference between Home Depot birch plywood and B/BB Baltic birch plywood.

Lasse, they can sell for a lot more than that (about $1200 in that example).

I purchased a Stanley #51/52 several years ago for about $500. However, the #51 plane had a repaired frog, which is quite common. The frog is a weak design on the Stanley #51.

I restored the combo, and used it for a few years before replacing the Stanley #51 with a LN #51 (a birthday present from my wife). As awesome a combination that this is, it is even more so with the Veritas Shooting Plane.

My advice would be to look out for a #52 shooting board, and snap it up if you can. Then add the Veritas.

The value/cost of the old Stanley's is the reason the LV Shooting plane is the only modern plane I own.

Is the brass adjustment nut on the 51 for the iron unique or do nuts from other bench planes fit?
