I'm making a bunch of Adarondac chairs out of Red Grandis from Guatemela for family in Charlotte, NC. They want the chairs to live outside and let nature turn them gray. The grain is beautiful and the wood appears to be very stable (I have cut all of the pieces). The advice I need: Do I dare deliver these unfinished? I have a good oil based eurethane that won't crack but it may make the graying process very long in coming (or never happen). If it were for me I would use this finish for longevity, if nothing else. But I'm not the end user. Your thoughts and experience would really be appreciated. Tom

I like outdoor woodwork without finish also.Paint is the only treatment thats gonna last.Your lucky the customer is ok with the wood turning gray saves you time right.Plus the sun will go right thru the oil its not going to last but a minute.
All wood turns gray in the sun so i say go with the flow.
