This is an unusual project that I think is worth sharing. It's a wedding gift that I call a "blessings vessel." The idea is guests write notes to the newlyweds and stick them inside through the one-inch hole, then the plug is sealed as a sort of time capsule. It's 19 inches tall, 10 inches wide, spalted maple with a banksia "feather" finial. The accent band has 52 pieces.

That's a very nice looking piece and will be a keepsake. You didn't mention how the vessel will eventually be opened to read the notes. Hopefully it can be opened non-destructively. It would be a shame to mar something that beautiful.

What a cool idea, Russel. It would be nice if the couple could have a way to look at the wishes 10yrs later, and see how things went in comparison to the sentiments expressed, without hurting your nice work.

i will secure the plug/finial with lots of museum wax.
