OK, I have a 3/32 straight bit, 1/4" shank, for doing inlay work. The problem is it's shortness, which it makes it really hard to see when plunged. Is there an extension that can be used that gets the bit further away from the chuck, on a hand held router? If so, has anyone used an extension and is there any wobbling?

Thanks

I've used the one sold by MLCS - no wobble. I was using the router handheld, but on a jig that limited the movement of the router to a straight line.

That sounds scary to me, I would buy a proper bit for the job.

Rockler sells a 1/2" to 1/4" extension - http://www.rockler.com/rockler-router-collet-extension-for-1-4-in-shank-bits

I was on the edge of purchasing an extension bit to make changing bits easier. But after reading the instructions for adjusting this device to eliminate any wobble or concentricity issues, I decided to leave it in the store.

Like a prior reply stated, seek out a proper length bit and problem solved.

I would have done so but there was no bit I could find that was long enough for the job.
