I just finished turning a burl into a bowl....actually started out that way but had to stop because where I located the driver collapsed leaving most of the bottom missing with a very large cavity of gnarled bark. Fortunately i had the outside turned to about the way I wanted it. I made it about half way through boring it out. Today I began the tedious job of sanding it. That's going to take a while.
I have been using Minwax tung oil finish but wondering if it would be best to just spray it with poly. Seems to me that the tung would just leave pockets of uncured goop. The piece is very rough.
Any suggestions?

Most burls do not leave you with a smooth finish, usually bark and hollow marks, I like to use several coats of spray lacquer.
