I have a really nice Stanley 12 1/2 that i picked up a while back. I replaced the original blade with a nice new one from Ron Hock. I've used it a few times, but I'm pretty sure that I am not getting the results that I should be getting. I would really love to find a video that would show how to properly adjust and use it. I have searched some on YouTube, but the only ones I have found only discuss how to sharpen the blade. Does anyone know of one that may help me? Or, for those of you who do videos, would someone be i terested in making and posting one?

I can't say that what I do is the correct procedure, but it works. In a scraper plane, I sharpen the blade and then try it out as a hand-held scraper for a while, seeing how it behaves at various attack angles. The best angle depends on how distinct a hook you have turned, and what you are scraping. Once you have decided on an attack angle, set the plane there and give it a try. You can make much finer adjustments in the plane, but not as quickly as hand-held of course. However once you find the right angle, use it for a while.

The nice thing about these is the way you can lock in the right angle. The frustrating thing is the way you can lock in the wrong angle. I find it much faster to get into the ballpark by hand first.

Not all of these links are specifically for your scraper plane but I'm sure there are nuggets of information to be gleaned.
