I have an opportunity to buy a used Laguna LT20 bandsaw, made in Italy. Anyone have this saw and can offer some thoughts?

Thanks in advance.

If its' an ACM, that's a top quality machine.

It is an ACM. He's asking $2500, but my limit is $2300. Is that a fair offer?

Yes, that's more than fair. I'd actually make my first offer at $2k and settle at $2300.

Edit: my comment is in regards to the bargaining process, I don't know the value of the machine or the going rates of used Laguna equipment.

He agreed to $2,300. In going to check it out now. I sure hope it's in as good a condition as the pics show.

Wish me luck.

Any concern with it sitting upright in my pickup and driving on the highway as long as it's strapped down well and anything loose secured?

Avoid overpasses with less than a 11 foot clearance. Seriously though, nice score!

I've moved about eleventy-billion bandsaws in pickup trucks. Trying to transport a machine that size in the bed of a truck, standing up, is asking for trouble. Lay it down on it's back in the bed of the truck and secure with ratcheting straps. Hope this helps,

Erik

What Erik said. Table can come off if you are worried about it. Dave

Well, I am now the proud owner of a Laguna ACM LT20 bandsaw with a 4.5 Hp Baldor motor. I'm giddy as a school girl right now. I've wanted a larger saw for resawing, but after many months of searching for a used one I had just about given up and settled for a smaller saw. Then along comes this saw and now I'm set for life.

I would appreciate some recommendations for a good resaw blade. I know the Laguna resaw King is supposed to be great, but expensive. I'd like something more affordable if possible. There is a great sharpening guy close to me, so something that can be resharpened several times would be nice.

Well you've just spent $2300 on a bandsaw, seems a shame to only spend $10 on a blade. The resaw king would be a nice companion. A top saw deserves a top blade.

Congrats on the new saw. I would look at the Woodmaster CT blades. I have heard good things, carbide and can be resharpened. Plus less than the resaw king.

Ken, I just $2300 on a bandsaw, that's why I need to spend $10 on a blade, hahaha

Start with a Lenox CT 1.3. I'd go 3/4 as first choice and 1" as second. Normally a 1" is my go to size but a 20" is borderline for tensioning a carbide with a .035" band. The resaw king is easier to tension with a thinner band but it is a slow feeding blade in comparison to the CT. Dave

Congrats on your saw.Maybe your saw sharpen guys has bandsaw blade stock to make up a blade for you.Its good to have a varity of resaw blades.

Any suggestions for a mobile base? Laguna has one for the saw that is $150, but I was wondering if there are other quality options for less. The base is 15"x29" and the saw is almost 600 pounds.

David, which blade are you thinking of?
Pet Lenox website, the Woodmaster CT is available in 1" and 2" widths at various tooth spacings.
The TriMaster is available in 3/4" width @ 3TPI

Just noticed that the application section for these blades includes stainless. How long does a blade last if cutting steels?

I didn't realize the CT doesn't come in 3/4". A Trimaster 2-3 varitooth is as good as life gets. I've cut aluminum but not steel. Blades are too expensive to chance on steel IMO. Dave

I didn't realize that, either. The Tri-master is for sure available in 3/4"

Buy it quick. I have had a LT18 since 2001 and not a single problem or concern with it.
I would by a Laguna band saw again in a heartbeat.

Thanks Mike. I picked it up on Saturday. I'm on cloud 9.

Any suggestions on a mobile base? I can buy the Laguna one for $150, but wasn't sure if there is an equivalent quality, lower cost version. Base is 15"x29" and weighs 600 pounds.

I put Great Lakes Casters on my LT 18 and they work great. Just screwed them in to the pre –taped holes in the saws base.
