I have used reduced Pore-O-Pac in walnut for filling and contrast with red oak. My piece is due this week and no one carries the Walnut Pore-O-Pac. I vaguly remember an alternative pore filling process that used wood dust and shellac.
Does anyone have a link to this approach?
Is there a reasonable method to get the open pores darker for a more aged look?
Thanks

Have you considered wet sanding with Watco Danish Oil ?

The sawdust/oil fills the pores and dries Hard. And you can use a colored oil if you wish...

Cheers, Don

Might this also work with the sawdust from a darker wood such as Black Walnut and a slurry with danish oil or would that create a new problem?

Never tried that Dean.

Usually the sawdust/slurry from wet sanding is enough to fill the pores.

And I just use whatever color of Watco oil I want for the final "color".
