Vintage Alan Bradley NEMA switch gear has got to be the best.

Vintage machinery web site does not have a data base for switchgear and so information is spair on the great googly googly. Are there vintage switchgear site out there?

came out of a gold mine in the North West Territories of Canada.

more on this explosive proof AB motor control switch. I have never seen another AB 609 like it. these today are in the $1000 range for NEMA.

As you can see a standard AB 609 motor switch is inside the cast iron enclosure and the cover plate push buttons press on these for isolation of the control gear.

The push buttons run through bronze bushings to seal them and so that there is no chance of spark from metal to metal contact.

Spark arresting hardware made of solid bronze . You can bet that the maintenance crew all used Ampco wrenches too.

The AB 609 is one of the best Manual motor controls with heaters for overload that trip out the motor. You can find vintage heaters on ebay with ease. these do not have a coil so voltage is not a problem when looking for these switches .

I find that this sort of thing is just as important to save as the machines and adds a cool factor to your restoration. these are often very rare to come by and lots of this older control switch gear is lost. I find its useful to post this as there is little known

thanks for looking:cool:

In trying to date this switch it's older than 1952 as that is when the canadian AB firm opened.

Allen-Bradley Company. In 1952 they opened a subsidiary in Galt, Ontario (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Galt,_Ontario), Canada (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canada), that employs over 1000 people.
