I have a Craftsman 15" drill press model 137.229150. The table drops and makes a clunk when lowering. It seems like one revolution of the crank makes it drop to the next tooth in the gears.

Does anyone know how to fix this?

Thanks

Are you sure it's not just sticking while it slides down?

Yes, sticking to the post. Raise the table all the way and clean/wax the post. This can develop due to slop. Slop can develop due to wear or from using the table without tightening the table clamp to the post . . . which is also a type of wear I guess .

Clean and wax the post.

Check to insure the bolt in the lock isn't binding. A little lubrication on the locking mechanism might solve your problem as well as waxing the column as noted in the previous posts.
